On the northwest corner of Bay and Grenville Streets can be found this 2013 Heritage Toronto plaque attached to the wall just to the left of the main doors. Here's what it says:
Coordinates: 43.66165 -79.38631 |

This building was constructed as the Toronto dealership of the McLaughlin Motor Company, subsidiary of General Motors of Canada, founded by R.S. McLaughlin of Oshawa. It is a rare Toronto example of an early 20th-century-automobile showroom. The architecture firm of Hutton and Souter designed the building in the Neo-Gothic style. It's main entrance features a stone arch and pediment above the oak French doors. The east façade, which follows the curve of Bay Street, includes full height stone lintels and pilasters that define the large showroom windows. From 1955 until 2007, the Addison on Bay Cadillac dealership occupied the building.

Just visited this site and was disappointed to see that once again the accolades go to Sam McLaughlin instead of George and Sam. George was instrumental in creating the Mclaughlin Carriage dealerships across Canada which as we all know became General Motors of Canada years later. It is upsetting to a family member (of George) that only Sam continues to get the acknowledgement of a monumental accomplishment to Canadian history. I so hope that the truth some day will come to the forefront. Sam was a great man, no mistake there, but his brother George played a huge part in the success. He unfortunately did not live as long.
