This 2008 Heritage Toronto plaque, attached to this building just to the right of the front doors, can be found on the northeast corner of Dovercourt Road and Argyle Street. This is what it says:

Montreal architect Sydney Comber designed this factory building in Edwardian Classical style. Its façades feature stone detailing and are divided into distinct bays by brick pilasters. Window design is unique to each level and reflects the original separation - by factory floors - of the processes of bread production. In the final stage, bread wagons were loaded from the ground-level archways on Argyle Street. In use as a bakery until 1957, this building was converted to residential lofts in 2007. The factory clock remains above the front entrance.

I live at 4360 Montclair Street in Montreal, Quebec (NDG) and I believe Sydney Comber designed this house to live in as well as another one next door to me that he also owned the land on which it sits, and also lived in. I think he may have even built the Mother's Hospital directly across the street for the Catherine Boothe Salvation Army hospital! I do not know how to get copies of the original plans to my home. However, I know a have seen that the home next door has a full set which accompanies the owners. Would love to have any info anyone might have on my home which we love, and especially love that Sydney Comber designed it!! Best,.. and thanks for any info anyone might have.

Sydney Comber was my grandfather. I am pleased to see that this building is now used for housing as I work in subsidized housing in Vermont, USA.
