Welcome to Toronto's Historical Plaques. This site is dedicated to cataloguing all of the Heritage Toronto plaques found throughout the city. It provides images, commentary, and location information for over 1,000 historical plaques.

Originally launched in July 2006 by the late Alan L. Brown, a retired school librarian, this website has served as a valuable resource for those interested in Toronto's rich heritage.

(continued from the top of this page) Through correspondence with federal, provincial, and municipal agencies, Alan obtained lists of plaques from the Historic Sites and Monuments Board of Canada, the Ontario government, and the City of Toronto government.

There are five ways to see the plaque pages, all accessible from the menu at the top of the page. 'Index' gets you an alphabetical list of all the pages. 'Subjects' will show you a list of all the pages sorted by subject. 'Plaque Map' will show you a map of the city with all the plaques marked which you can click on. 'Search' will allow you to find all the pages that match any word or words and finally, you can click the 'More' link in the menu on each page to travel through all the pages alphabetically.

Each plaque page presents a photo of the plaque, a photo of the subject of the plaque or a photo of the plaque site, commentary originally written by Alan L. Brown, the text of the plaque, a map of the plaque's location including latitude and longitude coordinates, links to more information, and an opportunity to send comments about the plaque page.

In partnership with Evan Sepa, a GIS Professional, there is an interactive Google Map of Toronto that includes links to all the plaques on this site.

In March of 2004, Alan L. Brown began a website called Ontario's Historical Plaques. He launched this Toronto-focused site in July of 2006.

This website continues to preserve and share the historical legacy of Toronto, building on the passion and dedication of its original founder, Alan L. Brown (1945-2023).
